Dan Hannan has been selected for the UK's safest seat.

He said on his blog, "I ought to feel jolly pleased with myself. I have, after all, just been selected for the safest seat in the United Kingdom (except the Speaker's constituency of Glasgow Springburn which, by tradition, is not contested by the other parties).

Tony Blair's party list method benefits some more than others. The lucky chap who gets the number one slot for the Conservatives' South East Euro-list is pretty well irremovable. It would take an 80 per cent swing against the Tories to unseat him. And that lucky chap, thanks to you, my friends, is me."
